Avion Ridge (Waterton NP)- August 28, 2026
Kercher Glacier Classic
Participants: Jim Goss, Lou Herritt, Krissy Ramirez, Joan Schumaker, Jesse Baggett, Laurel Vielle
Between three vehicles, six intrepid Rocky Mountaineers made the trip up to Waterton NP in Canada for a bike and hike of Avion Ridge. We were able to bike about 3 miles of trail, stow the bikes, then hike a loop where we hit Avion Ridge high point. Weather was great, if a bit windy, and views were amazing. The hike portion was about 10 miles, the last few of which were steep downhill in some hot sun. But the hikers were tough and non-complaining, and we made it back down to the bikes in good time. The end-of-day treat was the fast and fun three-mile bike ride back to the trailhead - what a gift! We all agreed it would have been soul destroying to have to hike the last three miles and were thankful we made the effort to haul the bikes all the way up to Canada. Laurel Vielle
