Black Mountain (Horizon Peak) - May 3, 2025

On a fine spring day we met at the O'Brien Creek Trailhead. The actual Trailhead has very limited parking so we piled into one car at the O'Brien Trailhead and carpooled the last two rough miles up creek, past the scary Angels, to the gate and parked. The first mile or so was an easy stroll up a jeep trail that follows the creek. Then the off trail fun began. After about two miles, two hours, 2000 vertical, lots of wildflowers and just about as many ticks we were at the top of Black Mountain (5951'). At the peak we took the usual trophy photos and had a tick count contest, which Taryn won easily, then we headed down the way we came.  Took about 6:15 at our unhurried pace.  Got back in plenty of time to head to the TRM Spring Fling BBQ!  Tom Statz
