G-Spot- Winterfest- January 18, 2025

Leader: Francis Horton, Participants: Billy Brown, Krissy Ramirez, Tony LeBaron
Located just outside Missoula, G-Spot is a well-known and easily accessible backcountry ski zone within the Lolo Pass area. Due to its lower elevation, the snowpack takes longer to form and tends to melt out sooner than nearby zones. The area features three primary ski lines: the least visited east-facing gully with a mix of avi terrain and powder stashes, the main east-facing line along the typical skin track, and the most popular northeast line from the top. While it doesn’t always deliver the deepest turns, G-Spot’s proximity to town and relatively safe terrain make it a reliable and social option for casual outings.
Our group toured up the main skin track, which was firm and a bit icy but manageable. Spirits were high, and we made steady progress up to the open glades on the eastern aspect. After a quick lap there, we regrouped and continued to the top.
For our main descent, we chose a slight variation of the standard northeast line. While it added some variety, it also involved a fair bit of bushwhacking and tricky route-finding, with minimal payoff. The exit, as usual, was brushy but manageable. We wrapped up the day by regrouping with other Winterfest participants back at Lolo Hot Springs.
