Nascar continues to fly under the radar as one of Lolo Pass’s most versatile zones. Sitting just across from the Lolo Pass Visitor Center, it's named for the snowmobile trail that slices through it. Despite that, it's typically quieter than expected, offering easy access to a variety of open glades and mellow tree skiing. There’s some avalanche terrain, but most of it can be avoided on higher hazard days. Spring, however, is where Nascar really shines—it’s a corn-harvest haven that rewards well-timed laps and solar strategy.
With the road to Sweeney Peak still not in shape during a pre-trip scout, we pivoted to Nascar for a more accessible spring objective. While Billy and I had been here earlier in the season for powder laps, the game had changed—this time, it was all about the corn.
We headed up the snowmobile trail with great coverage and perfect timing, letting the sun do its thing across the main face. After two laps on beautifully softened corn, we moved toward the crown jewel of the zone: the broad, open ridge at the southern end of the zone—clearly visible from the highway. That “money face” delivered the goods, and it was obvious from everyone’s grins that one lap wouldn’t cut it. So, naturally, we went back for seconds.
To finish, we dropped into Haskell Creek, crossed the road, and aimed for the Roadshots. Sadly, they hadn’t softened up yet, and even Carson and I couldn’t rally the group to ski them. No big loss, though—we wrapped up the day with a 70s-style party lap down Hamburger Hill. A solid spring session full of sunshine, corn, and good vibes.
