Who are we?
The Rocky Mountaineers is a non-profit outdoor club based in Missoula, Montana that offers adventure opportunities and promotes the acquisition of skills necessary to thrive in the mountain environment. Founded in 1960, the club provides monthly presentations for inspiration, “round table” discussions for knowledge sharing, technical skills clinics, and a full calendar of trips led by qualified leaders.
What’s happening?
We are now in the final steps of applying to be a 501(c)(3) organization which means that donations (other than for a specific purpose) are tax deductible.
Memorial Service for Bryan Kercher
The Rocky Mountaineers experienced a tragic loss on Saturday, May 8th when our fellow mountaineer, dear friend and trip leader Bryan Kercher died in an accident during the descent of Sugarloaf Peak in the Bitterroot Range. This occurred on a trip that Bryan was leading for the club. Our hearts and thoughts go out to Bryan’s family, friends, and loved ones.
There will be a memorial service for Bryan for friends to attend on Saturday, May 22 at 2pm at 500 Lovers Lane in Hamilton. Also, a link to Bryan’s Obituary from the Ravalli Republic can be found here: https://www.dalyleachchapel.com/obituary/Bryan-Kercher
Many of us knew Bryan from the trail and remember his passion for photography, bringing his camera and tripod in a fanny pack even on the longest days in the mountains in order to get images of the places he loved dearly. We have stories to share of this wonderful man and we have started to plan some events where we can share some of them and also lean on each other during these first few months without him. We plan to dedicate the Glacier Classic (one of Bryan’s favorite events!) to him this year. The next newsletter will include more details on this event as well as other ways we plan to celebrate and remember Bryan in the coming months.
